Mount Cooroora – scramble to the top for 360 degree views
2.4km loop – 324 elevation – rated difficult
Mount Cooroora was a seriously great climb! It only took us 45 minutes to get to the top. We weren’t in a hurry but its not a super hard climb, more a lot of fun. We parked in the Mount Cooroora Car Park on Mountain St, Pamona. From there we entered the hiking trail as marked by the sign in the shot below. The initial part of this track was just like your basic walking track, few hills but relatively easy.
As you progress through the track it starts to get a bit harder, you start to climb. A good indication that things are about to get steep are the built in rope chains. Great to help you while you pull yourself up! The track is well maintained with stairs and chains to assist you. This climb was just the right amount of challenging.
We had no idea what to expect in this climb. It was a lucky dip! We hadn’t done any research, just drove past and went “lets climb that” and so we did. The views from the top are insane, 360 degree views of the Sunshine Coast.
Can you fly the drone on Mount Cooroora?
National Park so you cant legally fly your drone here unfortunately. However, if you were to, I think its a great spot, enough clear space to launch and no one else around. Its awesome how a drone can really give you a better idea of what you have just accomplished!
What goes up – must come down
The scramble down was just as hard as the climb up. I think sometimes in your mind you expect the downward climb to be easier but it just is not! Make sure you take water with you. We had three litres each and probably drank a litre and a half each. We wore gloves, makes it so much easier on your hands when you are pulling yourself up chains and rocks and branches. Definitely would recommend a pair of gloves in your pack!
