Hello fellow travel enthusiasts! Today, I want to take you on a journey to the pristine natural wonders of Cardwell, a small coastal town nestled in Queensland, Australia. As a nature-loving travel blogger, I am always on the lookout for hidden gems, and Cardwell has certainly stolen my heart with its mesmerizing blue pools, picturesque waterfall, and breathtaking lookouts. So, grab your swimmers and let’s embark on this adventure together! The best thing about this spot is that it is only just off the highway, so makes for a great day trip or even just a quick stop!

Cardwell Blue Pools: A Refreshing Oasis

Located just a short 7km drive from Cardwell, the Cardwell Blue Pools are a true hidden gem that will leave you awe-struck. These natural swimming holes, fed by the pristine waters of Cardwell Creek, are a perfect spot to cool off on a hot day and connect with nature.

As I made my way to the blue pools, I was immediately struck by the vibrant blue color of the water. The crystal-clear water reflects the surrounding greenery, creating a mesmerizing turquoise hue that is truly captivating. The pools are surrounded by lush rainforest, providing a serene and secluded oasis that feels like a secret paradise.

I couldn’t resist taking a dip in the refreshing water, and I was not disappointed. The water was cool, invigorating, and so clear. It was a surreal experience to swim in such a pristine natural pool, surrounded by the sights and sounds of the rainforest.

There are several small waterfalls and cascades in the blue pools area, adding to the natural beauty of the place. There is a small spa that is created when the water falls into a small spa shaped area, the waterfall creating bubbles which was so quaint! We went on Easter Weekend which was the perfect time of year as the pools were full and clear, if you don’t time it right the water can be brown, or there may be no water in the summer seasons. But being Easter weekend, it was so busy, I couldn’t believe how many people were there, but it was still so lovely! We spent about an hour here exploring the pools and relaxing by the water, taking in the tranquility of the surroundings. It was truly a rejuvenating experience that left me feeling refreshed and connected to nature.

The best thing was it was dog friendly, not a national park and only a sign to say dogs must be on leashes! So a great spot to take the hounds!

Attie Creek Waterfall: A Hidden Gem

A short drive from the Cardwell Blue Pools leads to another breathtaking natural wonder – the Attie Creek Waterfall. This hidden gem is tucked away in the rainforest, accessible via a moderate 700 metre hiking trail that winds through the lush vegetation.

As I made my way along the trail, I was captivated by the sights and sounds of the rainforest. The air was filled with the scent of fresh foliage, and the sounds of birds chirping and water flowing added to the magical ambiance of the place. The trail was well-maintained, with markers guiding the way, making it a relatively easy hike for nature enthusiasts of all levels.

After a short hike, I reached the Attie Creek Waterfall, and I was immediately struck by its beauty. The waterfall cascades down from a height, creating a stunning curtain of water that glistens in the sunlight. The pool at the base of the waterfall is perfect for swimming, and I couldn’t resist taking a refreshing dip in the cool water.

The lush green surroundings and the soothing sound of the waterfall made this place feel like a hidden sanctuary. I spent some time just sitting by the waterfall, taking in the natural beauty and listening to the calming sounds of nature. It was a truly magical experience that made me feel like I had stepped into a fairy tale.

From the carpark you can take a path that heads down the river, it leads to a small swimming hole and even smaller waterfall. Such a good spot for a dip, we took the hound in here and let him swim for a good while, he is definitely a water boy and it’s so hard to get him out.
