Hervey Ranges most beautiful sunrise – Piper’s Lookout
We stopped at Piper’s Lookout at the top of Hervey Range once before and said we would have to do a sunrise there. So we got up at 4am, brewed some coffee and drove up the range. We got to the lookout at about 5:30am and set up for some nice shots while the sun rose. It definitely did not disappoint, the sky was very pink and beautiful and super clear.
Where is Piper’s Lookout, Hervey Range?
Its really easy to get to this lookout, you take Hervey Range Rd out of Townsville for about 30 minutes. As you get to the top of the range the lookout is on the right hand side. There is a pretty big car park so plenty of room to pull up (see picture below). Once you park the car, you can check out the view from the carpark. We like to walk up a slightly overgrown path that leads up to a wall of rocks and gives you the most perfect view of the mountains out to the coast.
A very perfect morning considering we didn’t check the weather! Great spot to take a coffee for sunrise or go for lunch and have a picnic. If you want to have a coffee or a nice lunch you can go to the Hervey Range Tea House. Its another 10 minutes up the road. You continue driving and take the next right turn and drive until you see the signs. The food is good, steak sandwiches and scones with jam and cream. Give it a go – I always get caught out cause it closes at 1pm so go pretty early.
This is a really easy spot to get to with a quick scramble up the rocks and great views. Its a great spot to take visiting friends and family to show them how beautiful this place can be. I found some more information on the lookout here Pipers Lookout (queensland.com). There is also a map on that site if you want more detailed directions.
