From day drinking to Ping Pong Shows – Phuket Night life
How wild is Phuket night life?
Phuket night life is as wild as you want it to be! We didn’t have the biggest nights out cause we were pretty wary of going into crowded places and getting covid. As far as I could tell, Bangla Road was pumping at night and you can do whatever you want there. If you want some weird kooky night I am sure you could make it happen. Lots of lady boys, lots of ping pong shows, lots of people trying to sell you weird and wonderful things. And with the number of tourists increasing daily, I am sure that Phuket night life will only get better as more places reopen.
Island bars
We went to these island bars, they are behind OTOP markets – which were like food markets but we didn’t go to them so not sure if they are open – but OTOP is listed on google maps still. Its very close to Jungceylon Shopping Centre so very close to the centre of Patong Beach. The map below shows you where it is, the front beach is Patong Beach. On the map where the bars are listed โLillys Aussie Barโ, โLucky Bar – OTOPโ and so on, that whole area is island bars.
Not many of these bars were open. There were two Aussie Bars at the entrance and then another one with a pool table and a few people drinking. So I picked that one and order some Cosmopolitans for Laws, his Dad and me. The boys were at the David Jone Tailor Shop around the corner. Laws got three shirts made overnight ,which are really beautiful – do recommend.
How much are you really drinking?
I watched the girls behind the bar making the Cosmo’s, bless them. They poured them into schooner glasses so there was not enough liquid to fill the cup. So what do you do? Add more ice? Find a smaller glass? Nope, they made a second round and topped the schooners up! So we had Cosmo’s that were like at least four shots of booze each. We spent a few hours drinking at this little bar, and as you can imagine we were pretty happy with their drink making skills. They gave us control of the keyboard and we took over the music on Youtube and had many more cocktails.
Birthday girl Thai baht necklace
It was one of the bar girls birthdays, she was 31! She had a necklace on made of 20 baht notes that people could add to. We spent the afternoon adding more money to her necklace. She ended up in tears cause she had so much money on it after a couple of hours. We also got her really drunk so that probably didn’t help the scenario.
To the next bar..
But we had a fun afternoon getting reasonably intoxicated. Then we thought it was time to venture on to Bangla Road! Like every smart Aussie, we jumped on our scooters and made our way up there. Surprisingly we made it there safely. However, I get motion sickness so I had a big chunder on arrival which was just delightful. On the up side, it sobered me up enough to soldier on. We had a drink at the Mojito Bar which is on the front street before wandering on further.
Lady boys
We saw lady boy shows that you could go to but we missed the time slot. Laws’ Dad put on a hat and danced for us on their stage instead ๐ The lady boys were looking beautiful but, all dressed up in sequence and feathers. I am sure the show is great, it was just before Bangla Road on the front street opposite the beach.
Bangla Road by night – the hub of Phuket night life
They entrance to Bangla Road was cordoned off and you had to get temperature checked to enter. It was a very quick process just swipe your hand past the thermometer as you walk in.
Bangla Road was pumping every night we went up there. So many people trying to take you into their bars for drinks, or into their ping pong shows. There were a fair few rock bars with live bands, a few street stalls and lots of ladies on the street looking provocative and holding signs like “Watch me shower”.
Bangla Road by day
There are a fair few bars open during the day on Bangla Road too, nothing else really opens too early in Thailand so if you are out before midday, you are just looking for somewhere to sit for lunch and to have a beer and then the drinking just naturally follows. We had lunch at Kan’s Haus Cafe and Bistro, its on the beach front opposite Bangla Road. It was nice food and good cocktails, they had only been open two months so we left them a Google review to help boost their business. The venue backs onto the beach so you can sit out the back and watch the beach which is nice.
Then we strolled down Bangla Road, we went to Dublin Irish Pub which is just 50m down Bangla Road, it was pretty good. They had a happy hour special on for two for one cocktails, but it really made no sense to us, they kept saying we had one more cocktail to get each but then we got a big bill, so I don’t really know what their happy hour was about. When I say big bill I mean it was about $30AUD for like 4 cocktails each, so just big for Thailand haha.
Continuing on down Bangla Road in day light..
We cruised on after this, there is an Aussie Bar which is a big open bar, it was always pumping, good spot to watch sports. There were heaps of markets further down and Laws got his hair cut at the barber, we had a drink at their barber bar next door while he waited. After that we went to the Tiger Nightclub and drank at the bars along the front of it. This place use to be pumping full of different little island bars, but now only the front bars and maybe the next row back of bars were open. You walk out the back to use the toilet and you can really see how the bars are all shut down. Its such a different world to what it once was, but from the street still appears to be pumping.
Ping Pong Show
We went to a Ping Pong Show at a place called Hollywood, its right in the middle of Bangla Road. It was free entry but you have to buy a drink for $50AUD so first drink includes a cover charge. After your first drink they give you a menu where drinks are around $10AUD each, which is still pretty expensive for Thailand – you will easily find cocktails for 100 baht ( around$4 AUD) and they put so much alcohol in them, one could really last you the night! haha.
They had a lady on stage when we first got in, she pulled a budgie out of her gyny, then I saw her sniff it so that was gross. They did some stage shows, like a man with a massive boner came out and used his big boner to lift some heavy weights. Weird but amusing I guess. Then a guy got pulled up from the audience and got given a basket and told to stand at the side of the stage. Another guy with a big boner came out and was using his big boner to hit a ball into the guys basket. Amusing for two seconds but just strange.
Laws gets stripped down on stage
Then a whole heaps of ladies came on stage, they pulled Laws up on stage, stripped him down to his undies and got all over him. One was knelt over him with no pants on and like putting her gyny in his face while another had his head and pushed it towards her gyny. Got to say I didn’t really enjoy this part of the show too much, so gross. They were just rubbing him all over and grabbing his pee pee (maintaining my G rated blog status๐), then they took him out the back and he got dressed and came back out and bought them bulk tequila shots. So then all the half naked girls were hanging at our table and waiting for more shots entertaining Laws and his Dad and not so much me #fun ๐
Darts and fish for the finale
Then the ping pong continued, a lady came out and popped some darts at some balloons from her gyny, some brave guy got up and held a balloon – after she had missed like 6 out of 10 attempts to hit a balloon. Anyway lucky for him, she hit the balloon and he didn’t cop a vagina dart to the eye. Then a lady plopped some fish out of her vagina. This made me sick, it was so disgusting. Much respect to the ping pong lady but good god, it was not an appetizing situation. We left after this cause I had seen enough and Laws and his Dad were going to leave me for some sexy Thai girls if we didn’t escape soon.
Definitely something to experience, but I won’t be going back to another in a hurry.
