Casventures: What is life without adventures
Who am I?
I am Cass, I am in my 30’s and I live in North Queensland. It’s a great place to live, sunshine and lollipops as well as so many beautiful places to explore. I work for emergency services so I do a lot of shift work, it gives me random days off but so I appreciate the ever changing roster (at times). Plenty of time for adventures!
My most favourite person to adventure with
My main man is Lawson, he has been in my life for a very long time but we surprised ourselves a while back with a sneaky kiss on the d-floor which has led to the best times together. He is an adventurous soul and an absolute delight so super stoked to be exploring the world with him by my side.
Where do we adventure from?
We live in the Whitsundays, its a great base for trips around north Queensland as well as being a very beautiful place to be. I have travelled around a lot with work for the last eight years, and its nice to have a place to call home now. However, I do have a gypsy soul and itchy feet and Laws is a bit of a free spirit, so we will see where the world takes us.
Our sweet naked gal Ziggy
We have a Ziggy, she is a blue sphynx, a little naked lady. She is the absolute best thing, I am not a cat person but always wanted a sphynx and I am so happy I finally got one. The Zigster really makes life better.
She doesn’t come on many adventures cause she is scared of the outside, prone to sunburn, and way too expensive to lose.. but she is getting braver and often goes to cafes and has been to the beach and Bunnings a number of times. She mainly runs zoomies, sleeps, yawns and meows a lot. She’s perfect. She has an insta account if you want to follow her (shameless plug) Ziggyđź’• (@ziggy_th_sphynx) • Instagram photos and videos.
My delightful family
My family all live down the east coast of NSW, I try to see them as much as possible but its hard being so far away. Every year we catch up in Yamba for Christmas in July, we do a five day weekend and stay in a holiday house. Last year was the first year we couldn’t do Christmas in July due to covid, was a bit heartbreaking. So I haven’t seen a lot of my family for a long time, but fingers crossed this year will all go ahead. I am looking forward to taking Lawson to meet the whole fam as well.
Family drone portraits
They all really love being a part of my drone family shots – even if they don’t say they do! I am still working on what this years family photo will be – very open to suggestions – I am going to try and do something with our shadows I think! Drop me some ideas PLEASE!!
My travels and adventures
I remember when I was a little 18 year old I didn’t think I would ever have enough money to go overseas on a trip, it seemed like something I would never do. But when I was 22, one of my favourite girlfriends Amanda #shoutout was like lets go to Thailand and of course I said yes! This was back in 2010 and I think I managed to save like 2k for the trip which was luckily enough.
Overseas adventures – Thailand
We went to Patong Beach and Phi Phi Island. From what I remember we just got pretty drunk and cut loose – typical Aussie bogans. I do remember a lady boy named Irene. I went up to her and asked her what she was doing. Irene was wearing black and white hot pants and a tiny crop falling off her shoulders, revealing her black bra. She was super pretty with big fake boobies. She said “I’m waiting for the fucking of the men”. I was like ‘cool sista’. we had chats daily cause she took up a little spot just outside our hotel. My first introduction to lady boys and the Thailand way!
Thailand ignited my passion for travel
We rode elephants, jumped in a boxing ring, met a monkey named Deth, I also got my first tattoo. I remember some boys getting rolled by lady boys and a boat ride to the James Bond Island. I remember; surprisingly, buying buckets of booze. We gave them about $10 and they just let us mix a whole bucket of straight alcohol. I remember thinking that was the dream. We did all the touristy stuff and it was a lot of fun. It definitely set the scene and my thirst to explore different cultures and countries.
Overseas Adventures – Japan
In 2012 I went to Japan. I was meant to be going solo and then one of my mates tagged along last minute which was sweet. Shoutout to the Mobbs man – he makes wine for a living and you can visit him here Wallington Wines. Its near Orange, NSW. Tell him I said hi if you stop by!
Japan was cool and I cant wait to go back again. We went to Tokyo and stayed in the city. The number one thing I wanted to see was Harajuku Girls. I wandered down Takeshitu Street and I saw one, all dressed up like Strawberry Shortcake. She went into a shop, I followed her and asked if I could take a photo. She opened her umbrella in my face and puffed her cheeks out and turned and walked in the opposite direction. So.. I took that as a no. But also learnt that a lot of Harajuku girls are men. Cute.
Japan has so much to offer
We went to the Peace and War Museum in Hiroshima and rode the bullet train there. I remember a little school girl walking through alone. She was reading the stories about finger nails and skin being located after the bombs. She was crying, such a sad event and a very sad history. I will never cease to be amazed by the terrible things humans do to each other, and to innocent people.
We also went to Mount Fuji, I rode a donkey up in the snow as high as I could go. That was cool. I can not wait to go back to Japan, and Laws is Japanese so I think a trip there with him would be pretty special.
Overseas adventure – Europe and Bali
In 2016 I went to Europe – Iceland, UK, Germany, Hungary, Czech Republic, Italy, Switerland, France, UK. And I stopped through Bali on the way home. I will write about these adventures some time.
Overseas Adventures – Vietnam and Cambodia
In 2017 I went to Vietnam and Cambodia. Such beautiful people and country side. Cambodia has such a recent war history, you can feel the sadness in the people. But they’re so lovely and welcoming and beautiful. I can’t wait to go back.
Overseas adventures – Hawaii
In 2018 I went to Hawaii, this was a last minute solo trip as I was meant to go with a boyfriend but we broke up three weeks prior. This was the best trip, as a solo female hanging around a bar, everyone just pays for your drinks and your meals, it was really nice. I went to Maui and did the Road to Hana, probably one of my favourite drives. I also did goat yoga and just loved my time in Maui.
Overseas adventures – Mexico and USA
In 2019 I went to Mexico, I spent a couple of nights in LA on the way through. I never thought I would like America and never wanted to go, but after being there for a short time I cannot wait to go back and spend some serious time there. Mexico was so cool, it was also a hard trip cause no one speaks English, so i spent many days without talking to anyone. But there are some beautiful places there, I will write about them all one day 🙂
Overseas adventures – Bali – first time with the runny bum
In 2020 I decided that I was sick of travelling solo. Memories are always better when you have someone to share them with. So I did a trip to Bali with some friends who were going for New Years. We all got hectic food poisoning which sucked ass. First time I’ve had it after years of travelling through Asia and multiple Bali trips! So that knocked me down for three days, we all got it at alternating times too so we really only had a day or two where we all felt okay. So that week was a bit of a write off which was disappointing.
Benefits of collecting friends around the world
I am lucky enough to have a girlfriend who lives in Bali with her beautiful Bali hubby and two little girls. So once my friends left, I went and stayed in Seminyak and spent some time with them. They own a surf school on Seminyak Beach so when the world reopens please visit them and support their small business. They have not had the easiest time over there during covid. (20+) Santai Surf School Bali | Facebook they have proper accreditations and my friend is English so no language barriers.
I am actually so thankful that I went on that trip to Bali cause it was only a couple of months later that COVID hit us and shut the world down. So it was lucky timing for me.
Why the blog?
I have travelled a lot and always thought writing a blog would be sweet, its just a good way for me to look back a remember all my adventures. Plus I often get a lot of messages when I travel about the places I go, so figure this is a good way to share those adventures.
I will post my upcoming trips on the home page so you can follow along if you wish! If you live on the Whitsundays and want some adventure pals, hit us up! Happy travels!
