Casventures: What is life without adventures

Who am I?

Adventures I have had - Bali, Mexico and Bali again.

I am Cass, I am in my 30’s and I live in North Queensland. It’s a great place to live, sunshine and lollipops as well as so many beautiful places to explore. I work for emergency services so I do a lot of shift work, it gives me random days off but so I appreciate the ever changing roster (at times). Plenty of time for adventures!

Some adventures - Jetski-ing in Airlie Beach, dancing in Paddys Shenanigans in Airlie Beach with my favourite man and abseiling down Mount Stuart in Townsville with my man.

My most favourite person to adventure with

My main man is Lawson, he has been in my life for a very long time but we surprised ourselves a while back with a sneaky kiss on the d-floor which has led to the best times together. He is an adventurous soul and an absolute delight so super stoked to be exploring the world with him by my side.

So many adventures - exploring Lawsons Dads farm where Lawson grew up, and cuddling goats at a petting zoo in Airlie Beach.

Where do we adventure from?

We live in the Whitsundays, its a great base for trips around north Queensland as well as being a very beautiful place to be. I have travelled around a lot with work for the last eight years, and its nice to have a place to call home now. However, I do have a gypsy soul and itchy feet and Laws is a bit of a free spirit, so we will see where the world takes us.

So many adventures - Kings Beach, Bowen. Mount Halifax north of Townsville and Cape Tribulation Beach.

Our sweet naked gal Ziggy

My adventure sphynx @Ziggy_th_sphynx

We have a Ziggy, she is a blue sphynx, a little naked lady. She is the absolute best thing, I am not a cat person but always wanted a sphynx and I am so happy I finally got one. The Zigster really makes life better.

My adventure sphynx @Ziggy_th_sphynx

She doesn’t come on many adventures cause she is scared of the outside, prone to sunburn, and way too expensive to lose.. but she is getting braver and often goes to cafes and has been to the beach and Bunnings a number of times. She mainly runs zoomies, sleeps, yawns and meows a lot. She’s perfect. She has an insta account if you want to follow her (shameless plug) Ziggyđź’• (@ziggy_th_sphynx) • Instagram photos and videos.

My delightful family

My adventure family - drone shots at the lighthouse in Yamba, NSW.

My family all live down the east coast of NSW, I try to see them as much as possible but its hard being so far away. Every year we catch up in Yamba for Christmas in July, we do a five day weekend and stay in a holiday house. Last year was the first year we couldn’t do Christmas in July due to covid, was a bit heartbreaking. So I haven’t seen a lot of my family for a long time, but fingers crossed this year will all go ahead. I am looking forward to taking Lawson to meet the whole fam as well.

My adventure family - family mask photos - my aunt made us all matching masks for Christmas in July.

Family drone portraits

They all really love being a part of my drone family shots – even if they don’t say they do! I am still working on what this years family photo will be – very open to suggestions – I am going to try and do something with our shadows I think! Drop me some ideas PLEASE!!

My travels and adventures

I remember when I was a little 18 year old I didn’t think I would ever have enough money to go overseas on a trip, it seemed like something I would never do. But when I was 22, one of my favourite girlfriends Amanda #shoutout was like lets go to Thailand and of course I said yes! This was back in 2010 and I think I managed to save like 2k for the trip which was luckily enough.

My adventures - climbing Crouching Lion Hike in Hawaii.
Crouching Lion Hike – I am standing on the edge of a big cliff but you cant really tell. I did so many sick hikes in Hawaii, mainly cause I met some guys at a hostel who were going and I tagged along. I will always be thankful for random people at hostels.

Overseas adventures – Thailand

We went to Patong Beach and Phi Phi Island. From what I remember we just got pretty drunk and cut loose – typical Aussie bogans. I do remember a lady boy named Irene. I went up to her and asked her what she was doing. Irene was wearing black and white hot pants and a tiny crop falling off her shoulders, revealing her black bra. She was super pretty with big fake boobies. She said “I’m waiting for the fucking of the men”. I was like ‘cool sista’. we had chats daily cause she took up a little spot just outside our hotel. My first introduction to lady boys and the Thailand way!

My adventures helping a lady carry her fruits in Hoi Ann, Vietnam.
Just helping out a working lady in Hoi Ann, Vietnam. This town is so cool and romantic – 100% recommend going with a partner. At night the canal is filled with boats and lanterns and its so beautiful!

Thailand ignited my passion for travel

We rode elephants, jumped in a boxing ring, met a monkey named Deth, I also got my first tattoo. I remember some boys getting rolled by lady boys and a boat ride to the James Bond Island. I remember; surprisingly, buying buckets of booze. We gave them about $10 and they just let us mix a whole bucket of straight alcohol. I remember thinking that was the dream. We did all the touristy stuff and it was a lot of fun. It definitely set the scene and my thirst to explore different cultures and countries.

My adventures in Vietnam - this is an abandoned amusement park and is pretty hard to find. But worth the visit! Pretty kooky!
This is an abandoned amusement park in Vietnam, I hired a motorbike to try and find it, got lost for like two hours then ran into some other tourists who were trying to find it too. Basically what ever entrance you approach they tell you to go around a different way, so you end up going in circles. Eventually we paid some guy $10 and he let us pass. It was really cool and pretty spooky.

Overseas Adventures – Japan

In 2012 I went to Japan. I was meant to be going solo and then one of my mates tagged along last minute which was sweet. Shoutout to the Mobbs man – he makes wine for a living and you can visit him here Wallington Wines. Its near Orange, NSW. Tell him I said hi if you stop by!

Japan was cool and I cant wait to go back again. We went to Tokyo and stayed in the city. The number one thing I wanted to see was Harajuku Girls. I wandered down Takeshitu Street and I saw one, all dressed up like Strawberry Shortcake. She went into a shop, I followed her and asked if I could take a photo. She opened her umbrella in my face and puffed her cheeks out and turned and walked in the opposite direction. So.. I took that as a no. But also learnt that a lot of Harajuku girls are men. Cute.

Japan has so much to offer

We went to the Peace and War Museum in Hiroshima and rode the bullet train there. I remember a little school girl walking through alone. She was reading the stories about finger nails and skin being located after the bombs. She was crying, such a sad event and a very sad history. I will never cease to be amazed by the terrible things humans do to each other, and to innocent people.

My adventures - Japanese gardens, in Kyoto, Japan!
Japanese gardens in Kyoto! I really loved Japan, everything just fit perfectly and the people are so friendly and helpful, like go out of their way to help you.

We also went to Mount Fuji, I rode a donkey up in the snow as high as I could go. That was cool. I can not wait to go back to Japan, and Laws is Japanese so I think a trip there with him would be pretty special.

My adventures - exploring Reykjavik, Iceland and loving the street art.
This is in Reykjavik, Iceland. It is a sweet and colourful city, when I was there it never went dark, I remember looking outside at about 4am and it was just like it was on dusk still.

Overseas adventure – Europe and Bali

In 2016 I went to Europe – Iceland, UK, Germany, Hungary, Czech Republic, Italy, Switerland, France, UK. And I stopped through Bali on the way home. I will write about these adventures some time.

My adventures - Icebergs in Iceland!
Icebergs in Iceland, Iceland is truly an amazing place to travel too. The people are sweet and they appreciate the visit and like to teach you about their country. It was a really nice country and I fit in so well with my blonde hair, if I ever disappear, you will probably find me in Iceland pretending to be Icelandic.

Overseas Adventures – Vietnam and Cambodia

In 2017 I went to Vietnam and Cambodia. Such beautiful people and country side. Cambodia has such a recent war history, you can feel the sadness in the people. But they’re so lovely and welcoming and beautiful. I can’t wait to go back.

My adventures - I stayed at a home stay in Sapa, Vietnam. My host dressed me up to look "beautiful" so I would find a boyfriend.
Sapa, Vietnam – I stayed in a home stay and when I opened the mozzie net I was covered in dust and then the worst hay fever followed lol but they dressed me in the traditional dress to make me look more beautiful and then we went to the markets to try and find me a boyfriend. Didn’t find one.

Overseas adventures – Hawaii

In 2018 I went to Hawaii, this was a last minute solo trip as I was meant to go with a boyfriend but we broke up three weeks prior. This was the best trip, as a solo female hanging around a bar, everyone just pays for your drinks and your meals, it was really nice. I went to Maui and did the Road to Hana, probably one of my favourite drives. I also did goat yoga and just loved my time in Maui.

My adventures - Hawaii, Hike of Death!
Hawaii Hike of Death – Olomana Trail

Overseas adventures – Mexico and USA

In 2019 I went to Mexico, I spent a couple of nights in LA on the way through. I never thought I would like America and never wanted to go, but after being there for a short time I cannot wait to go back and spend some serious time there. Mexico was so cool, it was also a hard trip cause no one speaks English, so i spent many days without talking to anyone. But there are some beautiful places there, I will write about them all one day 🙂

My adventures - Mexico City - the man in the middle asked to be my boyfriend. I said okay, and I guess were still dating cause we never broke up.
Mexico City, the man in the middle asked to be my boyfriend. I said okay, and I guess were still dating cause we never broke up – sorry Laws!!🤭

Overseas adventures – Bali – first time with the runny bum

In 2020 I decided that I was sick of travelling solo. Memories are always better when you have someone to share them with. So I did a trip to Bali with some friends who were going for New Years. We all got hectic food poisoning which sucked ass. First time I’ve had it after years of travelling through Asia and multiple Bali trips! So that knocked me down for three days, we all got it at alternating times too so we really only had a day or two where we all felt okay. So that week was a bit of a write off which was disappointing.

Benefits of collecting friends around the world

I am lucky enough to have a girlfriend who lives in Bali with her beautiful Bali hubby and two little girls. So once my friends left, I went and stayed in Seminyak and spent some time with them. They own a surf school on Seminyak Beach so when the world reopens please visit them and support their small business. They have not had the easiest time over there during covid. (20+) Santai Surf School Bali | Facebook they have proper accreditations and my friend is English so no language barriers.

My adventures - Blue Lagoon Nuse Ceningan, Bali. Such a beautiful island and definitely worth the visit.
Blue Lagoon Nusa Ceningan, Bali. What we read about this place was that it was the bluest water in the world, not sure if it is true but the water was definitely so blue!

I am actually so thankful that I went on that trip to Bali cause it was only a couple of months later that COVID hit us and shut the world down. So it was lucky timing for me.

My adventures - cruising around Santa Monica, USA.
Cruising around Santa Monica, LA
My adventures - Regal monkeys in Cambodia.
Cambodia monkey at Angkor Wat
My adventures - climbing the Stairway to Heaven, Hawaii.
Stairway to Heaven, HawaiiI hiked up the back way, was about 12km each way from memory through rainy sloppy mud and a rough track but we got to the top without a trespass ticket and that is the aim of the game!!!
My adventures - Hang Mua Peak in Ninh Binh, Vietnam. Such a beautiful spot! There is also a good cave tour here which I need to go back for!
Hang Mua Peak, Ninh Binh, Vietnam – one of my favourite stops in Vietnam. Can’t wait for the world to reopen so I can go back to some of these places.

Why the blog?
